What is Acne Rosacea
It shares part of its name with another unfortunate skin condition, but acne rosacea and acne are not the same thing. They do, however, share several striking similarities.
Rosacea is a condition that causes the skin to swell and take on a characteristic red appearance. Acne itself is a condition that involves the breakout of the skin with blackheads and whiteheads. And while both have their own trademark appearances, they do have several major similarities – they are not well understood in regard to causes or cures; they both can be quite embarrassing for sufferers; and they both tend to effect the face.
Another unfortunate similarity between the two comes in the form of cures and treatments. Both come with a whole host of possible treatments that will work for some but not everyone.
In rosacea, the blood vessels just under the skin get larger, which gives the red, ruddy appearance to the skin characteristic in this condition. It is most noticeable in people who are very fair skinned and is quite common in adults between the 30s and 50s.
Rosacea tends to appear on the face, which makes it even more troublesome. The typical spots for it are the cheeks, nose and forehead. Generally, it starts with a flushing of the skin and ends up with blood vessels that actually break. In severe cases, the skin will swell, pustules can break out and permanent deformities might arise.
Exact causes for rosacea might not be known, but there are some strong theories. It’s believed that caffeine, alcohol and even stress are a factor along with sun exposure. Pretty much the things that can make the skin appear red. Genetics, too, is a probable factor in the development of this skin condition.
Treating rosacea, like acne, will be very successful in some people, but not others. There are a number of options available. They include such things as antibiotic creams, anti-inflammatory medicines and even surgery to assist with the broken blood vessels. Some natural medicines, too, have shown promise in helping some people.
For those with moderate to severe rosacea, it’s advised to seek medical attention. While not everyone will receive relief from any given treatment, it’s smart to check out the options.
Dealing with skin conditions such as acne and acne rosacea can be very difficult and even embarrassing for those who suffer from them. Seeking good treatments and possible causes is smart and might help avoid the more damaging effects of these conditions.
