Acne and Psychological Issues
Going through life with acne scars is no fun for those who must do so. But, with a number of different options available, there’s no reason to think every scar must be a permanent one.
Since the effects of acne can be both physical and psychological, it’s important for some to remove the physical scars left behind by the condition to assist in healing the psychological ones, too. Fortunately, there are some very effective means for doing so, and the benefits to the psyche are many.
Scar removal benefits include not only helping a person look and feel better, but also:
* A boost in self-esteem that results from the removal of scars. Those who endured years of picking and joking will feel better about themselves when the constant reminder is gone.
* More self-confidence.
* A chance to bury past demons. Those with severe acne scars also carry with them a lot of psychological baggage some of the time. Getting rid of the scars can help a person heal on the inside and the outside, too.
While not every acne scar can be removed, many can and there are a number of different treatment options available to assist. They include:
* Chemical peels. The chemical removal of the top layer of the skin. This can leave the skin looking a little ruddy for a few days. Expect a healing process.
* Microdermabrasion. In this procedure, a special instrument is used to remove the top layer of the skin. What’s left is a fresher, newer layer. This, too, involves a need for some healing and can leave the skin looking a bit ruddy for a while.
* Plastic surgery. Sometimes surgery is a good alternative for scar removal. Surgery, however, comes with its own host of risks and shouldn’t be jumped into without serious consideration.
* Home remedies. Natural acid peels and other such treatments can more gently remove top layers of skin or at least dead cells. Don’t forget there can be a healing process involved here, too, and the treatment might not be as effective as others.
* Laser therapy. Another form of removing the top layer of skin, this one uses a specialized laser to target the areas with scars. It does have a healing process, but generally isn’t as long as some of the other similar options.
Acne scar removal isn’t for everyone, but for those it can help, the procedures are considered lifesavers. There’s no reason for a person to have to face a lifetime of scars when some fairly simple procedures and even some home applications may prove beneficial. The benefits generally are two-fold, as well, which makes the procedures even more valuable.
