Importance of Scuba Diving Certification
Before you can drive a car on the road, you need a driver’s lenience. Before you can fly a plane, you need to acquire a pilot’s license. And before you can scuba dive, you need to have a scuba diving certification.
Let us get things straight here. Although you know how to swim, it is still not worth to take unnecessary risks by putting on scuba gears and head underwater. This is certainly not advisable.
There are theories that need to learn before you can dive. And there are necessary trainings to undergo before you can safely head underwater. You cannot learn these by observation alone; you need to undergo scuba diving certification courses.
Take note also that there are different types of scuba diving certification courses. Some of these are search and rescue, cave diving, nitrox diving, Master Diver and wreck diving. This means that you cannot do cave diving if the certificate you have is only for wreck diving. The two maybe similar to you but in really or if you are on the actual dive, there are special training for each of them. If you have ill-equipped with the necessary training, then will certainly encounter trouble.
Many scuba divers lost their lives by not following this simple principle. They thought that once they have any scuba diving certificate, they can dive wherever they want.
To get your scuba diving certificate, you need to enroll at your chosen course. There are lots of diving schools at any major city that offer these. These schools teach both the theory and the hands on training. There are also resorts that offer scuba diving course. You can get certified from them as well.
Since there are several types of certification courses available as was mentioned earlier, single training may not be enough for you. So, there are several advance training courses you can take.
But not all can acquire such certification and certainly not all can take scuba diving courses. The requirements are: You should be 15 years old and above and in good physical condition. For ages 12-14, the Open Water Diver Certification is given. If you are not sure if you are physically fit, have a doctor to examine you. A basic skill in swimming is a requirement when you take scuba diving certification course.
You can be a certified scuba diver in days or even in one month. But ultimately, the length of certification depends on you, and the course is very flexible to fit into your desired schedule. The cost would range from $150 – $300. Usually with this cost, rentals, books, and tables are already included but you still have to check on the schools for the specifics. If you decide to buy your own gears such as weight, suits, snorkel, mask, weight belt, fins, and boots, the cost may be higher. Getting certification from a resort also costs higher than from a training school.
