Trends and Evolution of Self Hypnosis
Almost everything has a trend that it follows. Things such as clothing fashions, cars, music and even hairstyles to name of few things that has a trend it follows. Some things will start out as one thing and then evolve into something else as people take hold of it and shape it to fit them. Self hypnosis is no different in the fact that there have been trends and even an evolution in the way that self hypnosis is perceived.
Self hypnosis started out as hypnosis in which you needed a hypnotist to hypnotize you. This was done for psychological treatment. At first it was under scrutiny but in 1954 it was recognized as a valid form of therapy. This paved the way for the many other trends in hypnosis that we would soon see coming.
Stage show hypnotist made there way into the limelight and have provided the public with some fun and entertaining shows using hypnosis. This took hypnosis to a new level that had nothing to do with medicine or therapy. This trend is one that to this day people still find fascinating. But unlike the medical use of hypnosis, stage show hypnotist are not going to try and cure you of anything. Instead they are going to just keep things relaxed and try and have some fun with you. This trend did open the doors for many frauds that made hypnosis as a whole look like a hoax. For this reason one can associate the use of stage show hypnotist with some of the myths and misconceptions that are floating around about hypnosis.
Self help audio tapes opened the door for people to start to look into self hypnosis. This seemed to be the point in which modern society in the United States seen people bypassing a doctor or trained hypnotist. Those self help audio tapes boasted what can be accomplished with the human mind when positive messages were introduced during sleep to the subconscious mind. This method became a really popular trend among many people within society. As well as being a popular trend it showed us the evolution that hypnosis had taken over the course of time.
From the self help audio tapes came trend of people actually trying to self hypnotize themselves to achieve the same results that a doctor or trained hypnotist would achieve. As with hypnosis there came much controversy and criticism over self hypnosis as there was in the past over hypnosis. Many in society believed these people to be weird and eccentric.
Now though in society self hypnosis is still hit with some resistance but for the most part it is accepted. More often self hypnosis is viewed as a form of holistic medicine that one can administer to one’s self. In today’s society self hypnosis is believed to be able to cure or treat almost anything imaginable. Everything from self confidence to pain management is viewed as something that self hypnosis can take care of. Self hypnosis has changed and evolved to stay alive within the many trends and evolutions of society.
