Any advice on how to help my labor start?

I've been having contractions for DAYS that are spaced between an hour and 2 hours apart. I'm ready to have my baby. Any advice? BESIDES SEX.

  1. You aren't having labor contractions, most likely- you're having the "practice" Braxton Hicks pains. I tried everything with both of my pregnancies. I truly believe that babies will come when they are ready (and your body is ready to birth them). I know it's horrible to be in your position, but just think of each practice contraction as one step closer to the real ones.

You aren't going to be pregnant forever, even though it feels that way right now. You WILL go into labor on your own (your body doesn't know that its "supposed" to go into labor at 40 weeks- each woman/baby is different).

I would try one thing- relax (yea, I know it's easy for me to say right now). Seriously though, your stress level could be preventing your body from doing what it needs to do to physically/mentally prepare itself for labor and childbirth. Have a 1/2 glass of red wine or if you're alcohol-wary, a cup of chamomile, take a bath, whatever it takes. Have your partner rub your feet. If this is your first kid, believe me, enjoy it while you can.

A wise woman once said "When you can't take anymore, there's no more to take". I used that mantra to get myself through my labors, but I think its well fitting in your situation, as well. Good luck to you and the baby!
