Online Scholarships Can Be The Portal To Your Future!
As everyone knows, bills will just keep coming. It doesn’t matter if you’re a college student or not. Even if students hold down jobs and attend degree programs online, that won’t stop the landlord from knocking on the door. And even if the federal government does offer financial aid such as the Pell Grant, that’s not enough. This is one of the leading reasons why most students drop out of their curriculum in their first two years.
As it happens, the Board of Education is quite aware of this. It has developed supplemental programs on top of the Pell grant for students in extreme need. One of these programs is the Academic Competitive Grant (ACG). It can provide a freshman an additional $750 while a sophomore can get even more, an additional $1,300. With the Pell now at $5,750 this can mean a total grant ranging up to $6,500 to slightly over $7,000.
This grant does come with some provisos. For starters, a candidate must fill out a FASFA form and apply for the Pell. From there, the Board of Education decides if the applicant is entitled to the ACG. If so, it will send out an additional questionnaire that must be filled out.
Getting the grant doesn’t happen overnight either. One must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident and take a minimum of a half-semester’s worth of courses. While the money is supplemental to the Pell Grant, the total sum granted by both can’t exceed the cost of going to the university of choice.? These monies are to be used for educational purposes.
Entitlement isn’t automatic either. The student must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. He or she must also take a minimum of a half-semester’s worth of courses. While the money is supplemental to the Pell Grant, the total sum awarded of the two can’t exceed the cost of attendance.
A student must also stick to a predetermined group of degrees. While the field of studies can be pretty broad, and includes just about every form of science, tech, engineering, math, teaching and a number of liberal arts, no one gets an ACG for basket weaving or something similar. For a list of recognized degrees and specialties, go to the Board of Education’s website.
There is another condition for students going into their sophomore year. They must have maintained a 3.0 average (out of a 4.0) in their first year, or whatever their university’s equivalent of a 3.0 is. The college also must be accredited. On the other hand, the school can be either on campus or online, as there is no distinction between the two.
The important point is that for on campus and online diploma there is supplemental money out there for those who need it. Another good source for college loans is the financial aid adviser of your preferred school. For even more info, go to the ACG’s website. If you are trying to find creative ways to get your degree, and need more information about online degree programs, research the internet.
