When many a business pro decides it’s time to start their MBA, they get a minor shock. That shock has to do with the real probability that they haven’t done any serious number crunching since their sophomore year at college. It was nothing intentional, but their job just didn’t require it. Considering 40% of the GMAT exam is the Quantitative section, these applicants justifiably feel some concern.

Luckily for them, the business world and the people who prepare the GMAT are well aware of this. They realize that many who eventually do get their MBA’s will only have a minimal need for math when they return to their professional careers with degree in hand. As such, the first thing one should know is the test is only for basic comprehension, not arcane formulas that are only seen in the hallowed halls of academia or corner cubicles on Wall Street.

That doesn’t mean one can slide on the Quantitative section. Online courses provide a number of classes, programs and drills that will help prepare for this section of the exam. So, for those who start getting cross-eyed when they see an accounting ledger, here are some tips on how to prepare for this major portion of the GMAT:

Drill In Data Sufficiency – As it happens, this is considered a portion of the Quantitative test, too. It revolves around figuring out whether the problem presented has enough information to be solved rather than figuring out the actual solution. These questions usually tend to also be multiple choice. That said, ask to see if the course provides a large quantity of drills and problems in this area.

Review Your Basic Math Again – As there is undoubtedly some form of basic business math you have touched since your undergraduate courses, you will also undoubtedly have forgotten one or two important formulae that will rear their ugly head on the GMAT. Therefore, make sure to ask your college career counselor just what sorts of lessons, drills and problems they will provide to help you remember.

Pick Up A Puzzle Book or Two – While this is usually not offered at any college, it’s a great way to get the left side of your brain properly stoked all over again. Puzzle books that offer anything from logic exercises to Sudoku will help get those gray cells back in shape again…and who says learning can’t be fun, too?

Tailor To Your Needs – Even inside the math world, there are those who are expert in one sort of number crunching and those who are better in others. Make sure your online college will help you realize what your personal strengths and weaknesses are, and then emphasize study on the weaknesses.

Always remember the GMAT is going to test one’s general math and logic capabilities. It is a wise choice to prepare with online master. It will also do a comprehensive run through of everything you need to succeed when it’s time to enroll in your business degrees . Do this and you’ll do well on the GMAT.
